Talkin Bout Souls

I do believe you are all insane.

The most insidious aspect of the idiotic debate over abortion rights is the unwillingness of the media, frankly, all of us, to engage with the actual conversation. They are not talking about when a baby becomes a person. You are not talking about the scientific reality or general autonomy - whichever it may be - to these people.

The anti-abortion people are talking about souls.

It is absurd the lengths to which we go to avoid talking about this fact. There’s no such thing as the liberal media or whatever so long as they are unwilling to discuss how stupid religion is and why it’s destroying our lives. Many because they themselves are de facto religious in one form or another.

It is fascinating to watch the political assassination of Abe unfold in Japan. It was a good assassination. The assassin achieved his stated goal. The average person had no fucking clue how connected a cult was to every aspect of government. That is fucked up!

It is a good thing Abe was assassinated.

Now an argument that it is a bad thing Abe was assassinated was because he had a soul.

The conversation people are having around abortion is silly and it needs to stop. The religious right has one contention around abortion and that is it is somehow imperative for their belief system to accept that God imbues a child with a soul and if they were to interact with that belief then the details would have to start to make sense.

Meaning: When does the soul go in?

You can only engage with that information if you say INSTANTLY or BIRTH. Birth doesn’t make any sense. What? Why would exiting the uterus give you a soul? Arbitrary. So it must be instant, otherwise the whole thing sounds ridiculous.

This is the obvious conversation they are having, not you, and you are silly to imagine otherwise. When does the soul go in is the conversation. When does the soul go in. When?

What argument is there, really, beyond that? Why are we pretending otherwise?

The situation as it stands is that the belief system of a cult is running our fucking government.

I do not disagree that some religious people are fucking fine, but jesus fucking christ, the reason we do not have abortion rights is because the government cannot reckon with whether or not God puts the soul in at the beginning or when the baby comes out of the god damn canal. This is absurd. The reason they are not having that conversation out loud is because they are not fucking stupid. They know that if they were to violate the first fucking amendment that fast, people would start to think hey, maybe we shouldn’t have a fucking cult running the government.

The media is absolutely complicit in this farce. The reason they don’t talk about it in these exact terms is because they are afraid of offending the cult. Why is this ok? What is fucking happening? Religious people should not be allowed in government because what they believe is inherently insane!

There is no God, what the fuck, why are we talking about this?! Or at least why are we not talking about this?

It is god damn 2022, we’re living in the fucking plague, why are we unable to reckon with the truth that religious, magical thinking is deranged and cannot be allowed to steer anyone’s fucking lives in any god damn way? What is wrong with us?

The abortion debate is about when God puts a soul in a baby. Stop pretending otherwise and start talking about it.

The words and the arguments the far right uses are universally lies. These words were created to avoid admitting the basis of their arguments. They lie to you by omitting their belief system. Their belief system allows them to lie to you in service of advancing their God’s will. That is a true fact about their belief system, why is that not very, very important to all of us? The point of evangelical christianity is dominion over the fucking Earth, why is that not very, very important to us?

It is no longer relevant whether or not most people who profess Christianity are benign, perhaps positive. By aligning themselves at the very least ideologically with the cult over non-cult members, they are contributing to the overall power of the cult. Excusing their participation in service of your own social attachments is damaging. Participating in the cult as social engagement is inherently representative of the overall power of the cult, as well as intimidating towards anyone who would challenge it.

The question is not, when does a fetus “become a person”? The question is when does God put the soul in? By engaging with their pretend, jangling keys question, you are laundering their real question. Their real question is when does God put a soul in!

I feel like I should not have to say this, but it is a violation of the First Amendment to create policy based on the existence of a “soul”.

Unless it is the stated position of the United States Government that SOULS exist.

Why do I have to feel crazy for thinking the government's implied position cannot be that souls exist?
